Thoughts in Warm Water

by Ann Drysdale

About sex they were never wrong, Olympians.
Jupiter courted Leda as a swan.
Anatidae are copulating champions;
A Whooper’s whopper’s a phenomenon.
The Lord of Thunder evidently knew it.
Even with the complicity of Venus
And the combined desire of heaven to do it,
He couldn’t have performed without a penis.
With the restraint that current mores call for
To play the swan today would push his luck;
He dares to hope a modern maid might fall for
The similar equipment of the duck.
While in the pool his latest Leda lies
A doting mallard thrusts between her thighs.
